Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me) – A deadly shooting rocked south Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon, leaving one man dead and six others wounded.

According to police, the gunfire erupted shortly before 1:30 p.m. near 29th Street East and Clinton Avenue. ShotSpotter technology detected about 30 rounds fired in the area. Responding officers found a man dead on the sidewalk. Six other adults — five men and one woman — were located nearby suffering from gunshot wounds. Three sustained serious injuries but are expected to survive.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara said preliminary findings suggest at least one person in the group was the intended target. The suspect fled in a vehicle, and no description has been released. Authorities confirmed the weapon was a .223 caliber rifle, though it was not fired in full automatic mode.

“Our thoughts right now are obviously with the person who lost his life, with those who are trying to recover from their injuries, and with all those families and members of our community who have been affected,” O’Hara said. He credited swift police response and cooperation from residents for providing strong leads in the investigation.

Investigators from the department’s crime lab are processing dozens of pieces of evidence. O’Hara emphasized that reducing violent crime requires community cooperation. He urged anyone with information to come forward, even anonymously, to help solve the case.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released. The investigation remains in its early stages as police continue to gather evidence and follow leads.

Community members are encouraged to report tips to Minneapolis Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersmn.org.
