Lake of the Woods County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Baudette woman is facing a felony theft charge after authorities say she admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from her employer, Dollar General.
According to Lake of the Woods County District Court records, 23-year-old Michelle Andrea Grenstiner has been charged with felony theft. The case involves allegations that between November 2024 and January 14, 2025, she stole approximately $5,000 through prepaid card transactions while working at the store.
On January 14, 2025, the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Dollar General in Baudette. The district manager reported that Grenstiner, an employee, had confessed to taking money. Investigators were told the store had experienced cash shortages, prompting a closer review of financial records and security footage.
According to court documents, Grenstiner admitted she had loaded prepaid cards with amounts ranging from $150 to $200 onto her own card without putting the funds into the register. She reportedly told investigators she was struggling financially and began taking money in November 2024. In addition to the cards, she also admitted to taking some products from the store. The total loss is estimated at $5,000.
Both Grenstiner and the district manager provided written, signed statements acknowledging the thefts. Security camera footage also showed Grenstiner conducting the fraudulent prepaid card transactions.
If convicted of felony theft in Minnesota, Grenstiner could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
The case remains active in Lake of the Woods County District Court.
