Olmsted County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Rochester man is facing multiple felony charges after a weekend shooting that left one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his legs.
According to the criminal complaint, Dwight Dominique Campbell, 30, of Rochester, has been charged with four felony counts, including drive-by shooting toward a person, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality, and intentional discharge of a firearm that endangered others.
The charges stem from an incident around 4:07 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, when Rochester police responded to reports of gunfire on 18 ½ Avenue Northwest. Officers found an adult male victim lying on a concrete path with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, underwent surgery, and had bullets removed from his leg.
Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan circling the area, making U-turns before stopping near the residence. One woman reported hearing four shots before the vehicle sped away, striking a curb. Another witness said Campbell drove past twice before opening fire.
The victim’s girlfriend later identified Campbell as the shooter. She told investigators he had been contacting her through the night, questioning her about a woman he shares a child with. Campbell allegedly FaceTimed the victim and exchanged heated messages before the shooting occurred.
Police recovered a shell casing at the scene, and a search later located Campbell’s black Ford Fusion containing two 9mm casings and paperwork linking him to the vehicle. Investigators also found a Glock handgun case at a residence tied to him.
Campbell made an initial court appearance on Thursday, where bail was set at $1 million. He faces up to 10 years in prison on the most serious charge.
