Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Bemidji man is facing a long list of felony charges after a violent domestic assault that left a woman injured and children in danger.
According to court documents, officers responded to a home on the 900 block of 30th Street Northwest in Bemidji during the early morning hours of August 17. Police say the call involved a domestic assault with a knife.
When officers arrived, they found a woman lying on the floor unconscious. She was administered Narcan and later regained consciousness. The victim told officers that Lorenzo D. Valencia had shoved an object down her throat during the assault.
Authorities reported that children were inside the residence at the time of the attack. Officers then encountered Valencia coming down the stairs while holding a toddler. After tense moments, police persuaded him to hand over the child before he reportedly resisted and struggled with officers.
The victim suffered visible injuries, including bruising to her eye and lip. Police say the assault escalated to the point where deadly harm could have occurred.
Valencia is now facing multiple felony charges, including:
-
Burglary
-
Assault with a dangerous weapon
-
Assault causing substantial bodily harm
-
Terroristic threats
Court records show that all of the charges are felony-level offenses. If convicted, Valencia could face years in prison.
The case highlights the dangers faced by victims of domestic violence, particularly when children are present. Local officials urge residents to seek immediate help if they or someone they know is in an unsafe situation.
The Beltrami County Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution. No future court dates have been released.
