Clay County Bonfire Assault Leads to Felony Charge

Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A felony assault charge has been filed after a violent bonfire attack in Clay County on June 15.

Court records show that Gunnar J. Korpi is charged with felony assault causing substantial bodily harm.

The Incident

According to documents, Korpi and the male victim were drinking around a bonfire when the situation turned violent. A witness reported seeing Korpi standing over the victim, screaming at him as the victim lay on his side in a fetal position.

The victim was attempting to cover his face with his hands while Korpi continued to strike him.

Injuries Reported

Police noted that one of the victim’s eyes was bulging from its socket after the assault. A medical report later confirmed that the victim had suffered a facial fracture.

Legal Action

Korpi now faces felony assault charges in Clay County. If convicted, the penalties could include prison time and significant fines.
