Walsh County (https://trfnews.i234.me) – A frightening medical emergency unfolded Sunday afternoon at the Class B Legion State Baseball Tournament in Park River, North Dakota, when a catcher collapsed after being struck by a foul ball.
According to a reliable source at the scene, the catcher, who was playing in the Lamoure vs. Thompson game, was hit in the left shoulder by a pitch or foul tip. Moments later, he grabbed his chest and collapsed on the field. CPR was immediately started, and a defibrillator was used to restart his heart.
The player was transported to a hospital in Park River following the incident. In a positive update later Sunday evening, around 6:30 p.m., the player was reported to be alert, awake, smiling, and joking with family members. He has since been transferred to Fargo for observation.
Following the medical emergency, the two teams decided to resume the game after the player’s condition stabilized.
