Benson County ( trfnews.i234.me ) — The Acting Benson County Sheriff is providing more details on how calls for service are being handled amid a major staffing shortage.

In an email to trfnews.i234.me Acting Sheriff and City Commissioner Dick Horner said the Devils Lake Law Enforcement Center Dispatch will contact him directly by phone, and calls will then be assigned to law enforcement officers. Horner stated that the county is being patrolled and that services for citizens will continue.

Horner said Benson County is relying on help from other agencies, including the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol, to assist with answering calls.

This update comes after the recent arrest of Chief Deputy Travis Carlson, who is facing multiple charges, including three felony counts of tampering with public records. Horner also confirmed that two more deputies, Tyler Denning and Chantal Brorby, have resigned.

The county is now left with just one active deputy, Vincent Storing, who is currently on military leave.
