Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me) Delta Airlines confirmed that a transatlantic flight traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam experienced severe turbulence on Wednesday evening, forcing an emergency diversion to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport in Hennepin County.
According to the airline, first responders met the aircraft upon landing, and 25 passengers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Witnesses reported that individuals who were not wearing seat belts were thrown about the cabin during the incident.
While serious injuries from in-flight turbulence remain relatively rare, aviation experts note that such events may be increasing in frequency as climate change impacts the jet stream.
