Benson County, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me) — Benson County is facing a severe shortage of law enforcement personnel following a series of resignations and firings that have left the department nearly unstaffed.
County Commissioner Dick Horner has been appointed as acting sheriff after former Sheriff Ethan Rode resigned and Chief Deputy Travis Carlson was fired amid multiple criminal charges. Additionally, deputies Tyler Denning and Chantel Brorby have also resigned, though officials say there are no known legal issues connected to their departures.
The county’s only remaining deputy, Vincent Storing, is currently away on military training until the end of August, leaving the county without active full-time deputies.
In the interim, law enforcement coverage is being provided by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Ramsey County deputies, and off-duty officers. County officials say this arrangement will remain in place until a long-term staffing solution is determined.
