Olmsted County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Minneapolis semi-truck driver, Mohamed Mukhtar Abdi, 39, has been charged with two felonies following a major crash that injured two people near Rochester on August 13, 2024.
According to court documents, the crash occurred around 9:24 a.m. at Highway 63 and Highway 247 in Farmington Township. A Toyota Prius was struck by a semi that ran a stop sign and overturned. The two occupants of the Prius suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital—one by ambulance, the other airlifted.
Abdi claimed brake failure, but witnesses and a state inspection contradicted him. Witnesses reported no attempt to stop and no brake lights, and a trooper’s inspection found no brake malfunction.
Abdi faces up to five years in prison for criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm. He’s been summoned to court to answer the charges.
