Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A high-speed police pursuit turned deadly on Wednesday, July 9, after 33-year-old Jerry Redden of Thief River Falls crashed head-on with a semi-truck, just north of Mahnomen.
The incident began earlier that day in Norman County, where deputies initiated a traffic stop for a welfare check on Redden, who was reported to be suicidal. Redden fled, leading officers on a pursuit that stretched into Mahnomen County via Highway 200 and northbound Highway 59.
Mahnomen County deputies and White Earth Police joined the chase, which ended in tragedy about four miles north of Mahnomen. Redden swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a semi-truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
