MINNESOTA (trfnews.i234.me) – The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a federal lawsuit against the State of Minnesota, targeting two programs that provide tuition benefits to Illegal Aliens.

The complaint, filed on Wednesday, June 25, focuses on the Minnesota Dream Act (2013) and the North Star Promise Act (2023). These programs allow Illegal Aliens to access in-state tuition and free college education if they meet financial and residency criteria.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi issued a statement, saying, “No state can be allowed to treat Americans like second-class citizens by offering financial benefits to illegal aliens.” She pointed to a recent legal victory on a similar issue in Texas as precedent.

The DOJ argues that these programs violate federal immigration law, including the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, and executive orders by former President Donald Trump.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office responded, stating the state will “vigorously defend” its right to offer affordable education to all residents, regardless of immigration status.

The case could have nationwide implications on state-funded education access for Illegal Aliens.
