JAMESTOWN, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A dramatic 12-hour standoff in Jamestown has led to multiple felony charges against Jacob Lee Schmitt, who barricaded himself inside a home at 1818 Western Park Village with a 2-year-old child.

Schmitt faces six felony charges, including:

  • Terrorizing

  • Possession of a firearm

  • Preventing arrest

  • Child neglect

  • Plus two misdemeanors and three drug-related charges

Police were called early June 18 by a woman who reported Schmitt was threatening her. She said he was heavily using drugs and hadn’t slept for four days. At one point, Schmitt threatened to “burn her on a cross” and called her a witch.

When police arrived, Schmitt ran into a bedroom with three children and later barricaded himself with a toddler. The Special Operations Team was called in. After hours without food or diaper changes, the child was rescued at 12:45 p.m., and Schmitt was arrested.

Police found a used syringe and a drug baggie on Schmitt. He makes his initial court appearance on June 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Stutsman County Court.

I’m Chris Harper reporting for TRF News.
