NEW INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 8:50 a.m., a single-vehicle accident occurred on northbound Highway 53 at Highway 33 in New Independence Township, St. Louis County. A 2019 Hino 258 semi-truck, driven by 27-year-old Jose Antonio Calle Solorzano of Minneapolis, veered onto the right shoulder, overcorrected, and rolled into the left ditch, coming to rest against a guardrail. Solorzano sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seat belt, and no alcohol was involved. Road conditions were dry at the time of the incident. Responding agencies included the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Essentia Ambulance, and Alborn Fire Department.
