According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that Benn died as a result of a single-vehicle crash followed by water submersion. His death has been classified as accidental, and the case is now officially closed.
On August 13, 2025, law enforcement personnel recovered Benn’s remains and vehicle from the Mississippi River near Sartell. Benn had been reported missing in September 1967 after disappearing from Benton County.
