DULUTH, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – The Duluth tour ship, Vista Star, crashed into the breakwater at the Wisconsin entry at the Port of Duluth late Saturday night. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department reported that at 10:47 p.m., the Vista Star struck the breakwater with 84 people on board. Initial reports indicated that the vessel was against the breakwater but was not taking on any water.
There was one reported injury on board. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene and evacuated the injured passenger, who was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by Mayo ambulance. The injuries were not life-threatening. Upon arrival, it was reported that the Vista Star was listing to one side and navigating in 5-foot waves.
The crew managed to maneuver the vessel off the breakwater. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad, U.S. Coast Guard, and Duluth Fire Department escorted the Vista Star back to the Minnesota Slip where it was docked. The ship returned under its own power. Mayo ambulance responded to assess any further injuries, with several passengers treated for minor injuries. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
