MOORETON, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A close call in Richland County, North Dakota, ended safely when two juvenile boys managed to escape after their Chevy Tahoe broke through the ice on Mooreton Pond on Monday, January 27, at 7:20 PM.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a report that the SUV had fallen through the ice at 7902 170th Avenue SE, just east of Mooreton, near I-29 and Highway 13.
Fortunately, the two boys escaped through the front windows before the SUV fully submerged. A fisherman on the pond quickly came to their aid, keeping them warm and safe until their parents arrived.
Authorities say the SUV sank in the northwest corner of the pond, where open water was still visible. Arrangements are being made for vehicle removal.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office and North Dakota Game and Fish Department responded to the incident.
