BEMIDJI, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A dramatic rescue unfolded in Beltrami County on Wednesday, January 29, as law enforcement officers worked for two hours to safely escort a woman off the US Highway 71 overpass at US Highway 2 in Bemidji.
The Beltrami County Emergency Communications Center received multiple reports at 12:18 PM of a woman standing on the railing of the bridge. In response, Beltrami County Deputies, Bemidji Police Officers, and Minnesota State Troopers rushed to the scene, requesting the assistance of negotiators.
After a tense two-hour standoff, authorities successfully convinced the woman to step away from danger, ensuring her safe and peaceful rescue.
Sheriff Jason Riggs praised the collective efforts of all involved, stating:
“I am appreciative of the fine efforts of all involved for a successful resolution to this matter.”
The rescue operation was supported by the Bemidji Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Fire, and Bemidji Ambulance Service.
